PM Asks for People's Understanding on Traffic Congestion During SEA Games

PHNOM PENH: Prime Minister Hun Sen has asked for people's understanding on increased traffic congestion in Phnom Penh during the SEA Games and ASEAN Para Games, which Cambodia will host from 5 May 2023 onwards.

In order to reduce traffic congestion and facilitate the transportation of more than 12,000 sports delegates and invited international guests during this major sporting event, the Prime Minister has instructed Phnom Penh citizens to rely more on public buses.

"This is a large-scale reception that [Cambodia] has never had before, we have to maintain optimal conditions for the travel of players from other countries," he said.

The Prime Minister made this statement during the solidarity dinner with more than 4,000 athletes at the Koh Pich Convention and Exhibition Center on Monday evening, 3 April 2023.

The Minister of Tourism and Permanent Vice-Chairman of the Cambodia SEA Games Organizing Committee (CAMSOC), Thong Khon, has confirmed that Cambodia has prepared 5,000 security forces and 3,000 medical teams for the SEA Games and ASEAN Para Games. The games will have around 7,000 volunteers (5,000 for the SEA Games and 2,000 for the ASEAN Para Games).
